FAQ
Soft-touch questions, answered.
Roll film or pouches?
Roll film if you have a roll laminator: lowest cost per sheet, any sheet size up to the roll width, and continuous production. Pouches if you have a pouch laminator or only laminate a few pieces at a time — same finish, no setup.
Which core do I need?
Match your laminator's supply shaft: most desktop roll laminators take 1 in. cores, wide-format and production machines 3 in. Both are stocked in every width.
What temperature and speed for the roll film?
Start around 105–115 °C (220–240 °F) at slow-to-medium speed and adjust for your stock. Soft-touch is forgiving but likes a little extra dwell on heavy covers.
3 mil or 5 mil pouches?
3 mil stays flexible — covers, flyers, anything folded into a binder. 5 mil is noticeably stiffer — menus, cards and counter pieces handled all day.
Does the matte finish dull the print?
No. Soft-touch kills glare, not colour: blacks read deeper and saturated colours richer than under gloss. Keep very fine reversed-out type above 6 pt.
Can it be foiled, spot-UV coated or written on?
Yes — soft-touch is the usual base for spot UV and foil. Permanent marker and most pressure-sensitive labels adhere; dry-erase wipes off less cleanly than gloss.
