Desktop UV Flatbed Printers — BD-8 & BD-12

Objects up to 4 in. thick

— print straight onto finished goods, so awards, phone cases, coasters and parts come out personalised rather than labelled.

The BD Series brings UV flatbed printing to a desktop. Both models print directly onto objects up to 4 in. thick at 1,440 dpi, using EUV5 ink with primer for glass, metal, plastic and wood. Choose the compact BD-8, or the BD-12 for a print bed roughly twice the area.

Three Print Modes

Set the mode to match the object

Standard mode uses a small drop for fine detail on flat items and photos. Distance mode switches to a larger drop, so curved and uneven surfaces still print densely at up to ¼ in. of clearance. Text mode trims the job when the artwork is type only.

Primer for Hard Surfaces

Ink that stays on glass and metal

Primer lays down first and improves adhesion, so the BD Series prints on glass, metal, plastic and wood rather than coated stock alone. EUV5 ink is GREENGUARD Gold certified, which matters in schools, retail and other shared spaces.

Built for New Users

Short path from unboxing to output

The BD-12 runs on macOS or Windows through VersaWorks 7, and ships with FlexiDESIGNER VersaSTUDIO Edition. A/R markers and positioning jigs handle alignment, so operators place an item and print without a long calibration routine.

A four-step production workflow

Roland DG Connect Designer, VersaWorks 7, and the BY2-20 work together as one connected design-to-print workflow.

Design the artwork

Lay the job out in FlexiDESIGNER VersaSTUDIO Edition, which ships with the BD-12, or your own software.

Place the object

Set the item on the bed. Positioning jigs and A/R markers line it up, so repeat runs land in the same spot.

Choose the print mode

Standard for flat detail, Distance for curved or uneven surfaces, Text when the artwork is type only.

Print and cure

The built-in UV-LED lamp cures as the job runs, so pieces are handleable straight off the bed.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the BD-8 and the BD-12?

Print area, mainly. The BD-8 prints 8.2 × 5.8 in. and takes objects to 9.4 × 7 in. at 6.6 lb; the BD-12 prints 12 × 8.2 in. and takes objects to 13.1 × 9.4 in. at 11 lb — roughly twice the bed. The BD-12 also adds macOS support, A/R marker alignment and positioning jigs. Both print objects up to 4 in. thick at 1,440 dpi.

Can it print on glass and metal?

Yes. Primer lays down before the colour and improves adhesion on glass, metal, plastic and wood. That is what separates a UV flatbed from a printer that needs coated stock.

What is Distance mode for?

Curved and uneven objects. It uses a larger drop so ink still lands densely across up to ¼ in. of clearance, where Standard mode would thin out. Standard stays better for flat items and photographic detail.

Is the ink safe for indoor and shared spaces?

EUV5 ink is GREENGUARD Gold certified, which is the reason these run in schools, boutiques and retail floors. The BD Series also has built-in filtration.

Do I need UV printing experience?

No — Roland aimed the BD-12 at operators with little or none. FlexiDESIGNER ships with it, alignment uses markers and jigs rather than manual measurement, and VersaWorks 7 runs on Mac or PC.
